Photo-Realism is a fine art of turning a real image into an impeccable fake. They start with a real photograph or image and then paint or draw out a complete copy. Photo realism came about in the 1960s but has long since gone out of fashion, nevertheless there are still some photo realist artists today. Photo realism is about making people think a painting is real. One of the beauties of photo-realism is that given enough exposure to photo-realism it can be extremely hard to distinguish between a real photograph and a photo-realist painting.

Bertrand Meniel is my favourite photo-realist as he paints extremely life-like city centres.
